Mumbai Youth Congress District President rapes woman repeatedly with fake promises of marriage; held and sent into police custody till December 22
A South Mumbai District President of Mumbai Youth Congress (MYC) has been arrested by Tardeo Police for allegedly raping a Pune-based girl with fake marriage promises. The woman has lodged an FIR with the V.P. Road Police Station where she used to reside. Later, though, the case was transferred to Tardeo because the incident took place under the Tardeo Police Station jurisdiction.
According to Senior Police Inspector (SPI) from the Tardeo Police Station Sanjay Surve, “We have arrested MYC South Mumbai district President Mandar Pawar after the 31 year-old unmarried woman lodged an FIR against him into the V.P. Road Police Station by saying he has raped her several times by making false marriage promises. As per the report, sexually intercourse between the couple happened multiple times in an area that falls under the Tardeo Police Station jurisdiction. Due to this, the VP Road Police has just registered the FIR and later transferred it into our police station. On that basis we arrested Pawar and produce him before the court where he was sent into police custody till December 22.”
“The complainant in the case hails from Chinchwad in Pune and was working in one of the private firms there. The arrested accused Pawar and the lady were in touch with each other from 2007. In her statement to the police, the complainant mentioned that the alleged accused Pawar took her to Panvel, Kalamboli and in various lodges, where he raped her on the pretext of marriage. From 2013, they have not been in physical contact with each other, though the complainant said that she tried contacting him several times on his mobile. But, whenever she tried to contact him, he used to ignore her calls,” added Surve.
“Earlier, she was staying in Mumbai at VP Road, but left Mumbai around three years back and shifted to Pune. As per the statement, the last sexual intercourse happened between the accused and the victim in 2013, and it is mentioned in the statement,” he said.
“After the FIR was lodged, the police conducted a medical examination of the woman. Around two years back, they spoke last on the phone. The Call Detail Record (CDR) of the mobile phone has yet to come out. We have booked Pawar under Sections 376 and 420 of the IPC,” he concluded.
